Literature Text

Strength comes from the soul. The body is a vessel — the walls that trap the potential. The limits may be broken. The soul controls the mind, the mind controls the body. Understand this and you can understand power.

The words echo through her mind, a distant memory as the Light Train traverses the fabric of the ethereal world. Oddly familiar, yet unclear. Where? How? She can't remember.

The universe jars hard and she spills into the physical world, once again inside her body, her knees and palms touching down onto real earth.

The sea is behind her, its saline smell tempered by the cold in the air. Small tufts of browned rice plants checkerboard the landscape, blanketed by a think layer of snow. And there in the middle of it, the silhouette of a man.

The shadow is upon her. An open palm drives into her chest, the air in her lungs forced out. Her body flies backward, skipping over the surface on the water like a stone.

The memory clicks:
The limits may be broken.

Her arms stretch out, slowing her on the water's surface. She rights herself, her heel digging into the surface of the water as if it were soil beneath her feet. The landscape slows, her vision centers, tunneled.

She bursts.

She strikes. The shadow blocks and counterstrikes. She sees the holes in the defense. A strike to the gut, and uppercut to the jaw. Her leg rises over her head, chops down over his shoulder like an axe. The shadow bounces. She kicks it high into the air, leaps, and throws it back down into the snowy field a hundred feet below.

Blood leaks from the broken shadow frame, pooling into kanji on the snow.

Power

Once more, can feel the Light Train approaching.
My submission for the second chapter of the Odyssey into 2012 project. Not really happy with it based off the first chapter and the new prompt. Maybe I'll feel more in the zone on the next one.

Also don't know why I turned down the femme fatale path with it, considering I usually despise that trope.
